KC chamber picks businesses for mentorship program by, Kansas City Business Journal

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce chose 12 area businesses to participate in the Herman A. Johnson Business Mentorship.

The three-year program requires businesses to be evaluated on their present state of business, expected growth potential, business operations, customer references and receptiveness to coaching, the chamber said in a release Wednesday.

The program is designed to promote economic independence and wealth in minority communities and enhance the business and economic development of minority businesses in the Kansas City area.

This year's participants are:

  • American Gardenscapes Inc. of Kansas City, Kim Kindred
  • Big D's Lawn & Landscape Services of Lee's Summit, C. Dwayne Verser
  • Japanese Landscaping of Kansas City, Koji and Christine Morimoto
  • KC Mass Services LLC of Kansas City, Mark and Sharon Irvin
  • Luevano Hart Construction LLC of Kansas City, Hector Luevano
  • Roemax Auto Sales of Kansas City, Maxwell Mudari and Rogers Nakhozwe
  • Packing Solutions of Olathe, Elson Seale
  • Li'l Guy Foods of Kansas City, Christina Sloan
  • Soda Pop Graphics of Kansas City, Kamia Kindle-Gaskin
  • James and Twana Scott Realty of Overland Park, James and Twana Scott
  • The Gown Gallery of Kansas City, Sharon Miller
  • The T-Shirt King Inc. of Kansas City, Chris Evans

The chamber started the program in 2001 as part of its POWER (Partnering Organizations With Essential Resources) Initiative. Johnson, who helped found the POWER Initiative, was a former legislator, NAACP leader and small business owner. He died in 2004.

Businesses Selected for Herman A. Johnson Business Mentorship , KC Small Business

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's Minority Business Alliance/ POWER Program has announced the selection of 12 local businesses for the Herman A. Johnson Business Mentorship.

The companies are James and Twana Scott Realty; KC Mass Services, LLC; Li'L Guy Foods; Soda Pop Graphics; American Gardenscapes, Inc.; Japanese Landscaping; Packaging Solutions; Roemax Auto Sales; The T-Shirt King, Inc.; Luevano Hart Construction, LLC; and Big D's Lawn & Landscape Services.
